Another top architect says that Melbourne is better than Sydney but could do a lot better by increasing its public space in the CBD and making it more pedestrian friendly.
I think, however, that we"ve missed the boat when it comes to open space. We could have bought up large slabs of land for next to nothing years ago. Now inner city land is much more cost-prohibitive to purchase and likely to have already been developed. Mandatory development contributions of say 5% are unlikely to allow Councils to buy up anything more than a piece of land the size of a postage stamp....Read Full Article»
Melbourne, 6.15pm AP - in an unprecedented turn of events a Melbourne tram has broken down near Flinders Street station. At this stage it is not known whether mechanical failure, heat, unions, the global financial crisis or dudes who wear the Australian flag as a cape are to blame.

Tomorrow they will be offering these goodies at Flinders Street station. In addition to those freebies, the company has started a free rewards club called Connex Plus. The rewards club can get you discounted juice at Boost Juice, 10% off the Eureka Skydeck and various discounts to retailers around the city....Read Full Article»
The Anonymous/Chanology/Anti-Scientology protests are still going strong! Hopefully a lot of people will remember the earlier protests, where 70-100 anti-scientologists gathered for protesting (and lulz) the Church of Scientology's crimes. The core group has whittled down to 40 or 50, and has been protesting every month since February. This month, we're hoping to up the ante, spreading the word to more Melbournians and really make an impact before the Church moves to its alternate location in Ascot Vale.
This month's main protest is occurring this Saturday (15th November). We will be stepping off from Flinders Street at about 1pm, but there will be anon under the Clocks handing out flyers from around 12pm. Look for the group with the flyers, masks, and giant, hilarious placards!...Read Full Article»
