Melbourne "builders breakup"
A little birdy tells me that this coming Friday the tradies all put down their tools over the xmas break.
The SAME little birdy has told me that a certain Melbourne Casino is taking part in a HUGE police blitz (continuing on from the last weekends) with undercover officers RBTing and evicting patrons at the aforementioned entertainment complex, both out in the gambling bits, and at all the pubs/clubs/restaurants etc.
Apparently it gets rough there on the builders break up day, and someone wants to show zero-tolerance etc....Read Full Article»

A knight in blue
I had to verify that its true and it is true. We have a knight in shining blue, a Sir Ken Jones to be exact. He is the latest deputy commissioner of crime of the Victoria Police.
I like him. A bit different and because he is an outsider, he is yet to be affected by corruption allegations and in fightings within the force. According to The Age, he rides a Harley Davidson and dares to try different things to reduce crime and corruption....Read Full Article»
Love, Karma
Today I had my faith renewed a little.
At the corner of Collins and Elizabeth St, a car ran through the red light. Sadly, there was a car waiting to turn right and had already started to turn when it ran the light....Read Full Article»
Stupidity just got stupider
Is there any limit to how farcical this 2am lockout trial can get? Obviously not, with the news that 100 more venues have received an exemption and Victoria Police unsure how to manage the exemptions. As it appears and as it is purported on melbournelockedout.com almost all late night venues that trade past 2am are exempt - making the whole thing meaningless!
The government has to stick to its guns - they"ve paid lots of money on an advertising campaign with the bright orange words that say "do I stay or do I go?" (or words to that effect). It seems we can now write "anywhere" underneath!...Read Full Article»
Crossing guards
Are we turning into a police state in Victoria? Just thought I"d put that question out there since a friend of mine was just now asked for ID by some police while walking back to his parent"s place in a non-descript, leafy, inner eastern suburb at midnight.
Next thing you know we"ll need a visa to cross the Yarra....Read Full Article»

2AM Lockout: The end of nightlife in Melbourne
Roving police patrols at night targeting violent hotspots was a great idea but Premier John Brumby"s 2AM lockout is just ridiculous. Last week, Brumby announced a trial starting on June 3, that imposes a 2AM lockout in areas in and around Melbourne. Some areas affected include Fitzroy (i.e. Brunswick St.), the CBD, St. Kilda, and Prahran. Once you step out of a venue and its after 2AM, you will not be allowed back in. This is supposed to curb increasing violence in Melbourne. Licencees who breach this lockout will be face fines up to $6800. The only exception to the ban unsurprisingly is the government revenue maker, Crown Casino....Read Full Article»
