Northside Makers Christmas Market

We have our stallholders, and we are set to go for another Northside Makers Christmas Market on the 28th November, 2009 at Northcote Uniting Church on High Street.

Why is this market special? Unlike a few of the others around, we run not-for-profit with the aim to encourage as many new artists to bring their work into the retail environment. So whilst you might find some old favourites, we also have some jewelers, sewers and crafters that you have *never* seen before. This is our last market for the year, so come along and support us!...Read Full Article»

Fitzroy history - Brunswick St shops

These photos show the shops in the buildings on the north west corner of Brunswick St and Rose St. At the time they included a chemist and a crockery shop. Now they include recycled clothing and icecream. On Brunswick St the transition of much of Fitzroy from industrial to retail is less evident as it was a major retail strip from the time of its creation. But what would the Victorians think of a shop called Shag?

International Shipping

I'm seriously considering moving to the UK and looking for work there after my recent holiday (I loved it, I felt like I'd finally found home), so I'm doing a bit of preliminary research into the little things that go into a move - like somehow shipping my enormous collection of clothes, shoes, accessories, etc overseas, as that's clearly what matters most. I do plan on cutting down my wardrobe before I move, but I think the bare minimum I'd want to send over is about 100kgs worth. I'm shallow and need the comfort of a large wardrobe, so sue me.

Now I've checked AusPost, DHL, and FedEx rates for shipping 100kgs worth, and prices range from about $1200-$1500...which is probably more than the items are actually worth because I'm an opshopper!...Read Full Article»

Dear Melbourne,

When you're discussing with your friend what to order, please be sure to look at the person serving you and actually request what you want. If you continue to look down and mumble your order do not be surprised if I ignore you.

Also, slamming your money on the counter only looks good in cowboy films. Try handing it to me instead, my hand's only a few inches from the bench anyway....Read Full Article»
