On a rare visit southside recently I chose a cafe for breakfast based entirely on reviews. It"s a fun thing to do – to see whether a place that has many good reviews delivers a good experience. As possibly the last white person in Melbourne to have breakfast at Las Chicas on Carlisle St Balaclava I was extremely pleased to have a fantastic breakfast and to have confirmed that all the reviews I had read were accurate and helpful.

I recently had dinner with Tomatom publisher Ed to discuss how we could use social media to rule the world. We ate at Sapore on Fitzroy St, St Kilda which, as far as I can see, has previously only been reviewed by 1001 dinners 1001 nights. I"m surprised by this, as Sapore has been open for a year or more. Ed chose risotto while I made a brilliant choice – the lamb shank on the specials menu. The shank had been roasted, the meat removed and shredded, recombined in a ball around the bone, wrapped in prosciutto, crumbed and fried. It rested on a bed of polenta with truffle oil and was as decadently delicious as it ... read the complete post

A VENUE HAS BEEN FOUND!!!

The benefit gig will be held on Thursday, September 11, at the Espy, in the Gershwin Room.

Times still haven't been confirmed.

I have three acts lined up (The Advocates, Jason Lives and Tim McMillan) but I'd love to get another two bands to round out the line up.

Tickets will be fifteen dollars at the door, and drinks will be at bar prices.

If you know, or are in a band that would like to be involved, or you would like be involved (promoting, graphic design, general helpfulness) please leave a comment, or give me a call on 0401905464.

The Sacred Heart Mission Community Cycle is a FREE ride from Frankston Visitors Centre (Melway's map 100 A9) to the Sacred Heart Mission in Grey Street, St Kilda (Melway's map 58 A9), on Saturday the 22nd of December, 2007.

The Sacred Heart Mission's prime activity is to supply food to and cook for the poor and homeless.
Mega shopping complex and night club precinct planned for the St Kilda foreshore

Whether youâve already contributed to our campaign (thank you!) or you are hearing about it for the first time, this message is for YOU.

Please read on to find out how you can still help save St Kilda from being overwhelmed by commercial beachfront development â and it will only take a few minutes of your time.

Thousands of people are now calling on the City of Port Phillip to reduce the scale of this development, and we know that the Council is starting to listen. By law, they must take account of every single objection to a planning application, and numbers really count â your objection counts.

Please help us to reach the critical mass of objections required to get this development scaled back to something which serves residents and visitors while preserving the character of St Kilda. One third the size would be more than enough for our beautiful seaside playground.

We have until 5pm this Thursday, November 29th, to make further submissions to the Council.

Hereâs what you can do:

Everyone reading this: Please forward this email
to as many people as possible who might be concerned about this development, and ask them to do the same. They do not have to live in the City of Port Phillip, or indeed in Melbourne â St Kilda is a place which is appreciated and loved by many visitors and their views are important too. Please ask your friends, family and other contacts to urgently go to http://www.unChainStKilda.org and follow the instructions there â the process takes less than 5 minutes.

If you have not yet submitted an objection to the Council, please visit our website
and follow the simple instructions to make a submission â it will take you less than 5 minutes and will really make a difference. We also encourage you to join our mailing list so we can send you occasional updates and, if you wish, make post a short comment on the website (lots of people read them!). Please go urgently to http://www.unchainstkilda.org/

The future of St Kilda is really important to many people, and itâs in your hands.
