Long shots

I'd say my chances are pretty remote, but -- if anyone found a Nokia 6131 phone today, either between Fraser and Danks Streets in Middle Park, on a 112 tram, or somewhere between Queens, Collins and Elizabeth Streets in the city, I'd be most pathetically grateful if they could let me know.  I've lost mine, and as I've applied for a lot of jobs lately, I'm sort of in a panic.  Not to mention that I can't afford to replace it.

Pathetic as it sounds, even the SIM card would be received with tears of gratitude.

risk of flying debris

When you buy a ticket to the Formula 1 Grand Prix you get a map and information that say "Motor Racing is Dangerous and Accidents Can Happen". There are extensive strict safety regulations to keep drivers, marshalls and spectators safe. But while spectators must follow the rules or be evicted, it seems the marshalls are not so keen on enforcing the rules on themselves or the professional photographers that cover the races.

From the Jam @ Prince of Wales

From The Jam
Prince of Wales, St Kilda

I am a big fan of the Jam; they rate in my top three bands and depending on what mood I"m in, they are my favourite band. Not only that, they are a big influence on my music and a motivation to get into music in the first place. I had always resigned the band to the "bands I"d love to have seen but know I never will" list stored away at the back of my mind, so imagine my surprise when nestled amongst the plethora of reformations recently I noticed that they were reforming, well, sort of....Read Full article

Shadows and Fog

In case anyone here is interested and has failed to notice so far, the Astor is doing three Sunday nights' worth of film noir double features.

The films are:

Feb 17th (tomorrow) - Angels With Dirty Faces (1938) followed by Mildred Pierce (1945)
Feb 24th - The Asphalt Jungle (1950) followed by The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946)
Mar 2nd - The Big Sleep (1946) followed by The Night Of The Hunter (1955)

They all start at 7:30pm.

I'm not an employee of the Astor, nor was I asked or paid to post about this here - I simply like film noir and these double features seem to be a pretty good way to get a dose of it.
Hopefully this piques the interest of some of you!

ITV F1 rock

Last week the UK TV company ITV, who broadcast the Formula 1 racing telecast that we see here in Australia introduced a new video section of their website. I was excited because the ITV F1 channel includes hours of F1 coverage that we do not get in the cut-down broadcast for Australia - interviews, behind the scenes stories, technical reports and analysis of car handling and driving technique - all amazing content....Read Full article

lost all traction - sidetracked and stuck in the mud

I give up. The Australian Grand Prix Corporation are morons. They have finally publicised their replacement for GP Traction, called Sidetracked, but unless you"re dedicated you"d never know about it or be able to find out about it. Information is buried, the offer (what you get for your money) is unclear and I think it is the wrong product marketed to the wrong audience.

The stupidity of their invisible marketing is enormous:...Read Full article

losing traction and getting sidetracked

I"ve been monitoring the bizarre (and incompetent) marketing of the posh hospitality area at the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix (now formerly) called "GP Traction". I attended the 2007 F1 GP from there and had a very enjoyable time. Since then, it has not been promoted and in December 2007 the Grand Prix corporation seemed unsure whether it would be offered again.

Good work Connex.
